Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to be a key member of the BAPKO Metal Preconstruction Team who is responsible for the oversight of the estimating process of assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with General Contractors, Estimators and Project Managers within the steel bidding industry.
• Lead teams for all Jobs up to $25 Million or more, including delegation of responsibilities, managing deadlines, overseeing RFIs, and providing strategic direction to the team.
• Assume departmental leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Estimating Manager, ensuring continuity and reporting directly to Business Unit Leaders and/or the Vice President as needed.
• Review estimates and proposals submitted by the team to prepare for project close outs.
• Recommend profit margins to the management team based on current market conditions, competition landscape, and project schedule.
• Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation presented by the client, to accurately prepare and estimate projects.
• Collaborate with others to determine the best job build approach for fabrication and erection.
• Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for new projects and assist Operations with pricing change orders on existing contracts, ensuring all deadlines are met.
• Prepare takeoffs of steel materials, estimate all necessary shop labor and field erection, estimate materials, buyout items, equipment cost, and other relevant resources to prepare a thorough estimate based on job bid instructions and specifications
• Delegate or enter estimates, takeoffs, drawing numbers, and related data into the in-house estimating software.
• Adhere to and follow BAPKO Metal’s estimating guidelines and procedures.
• Lead scope review meetings in person or virtually and present alternative recommendations on projects to better serve client needs and project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management is preferred
• 7+ years of relevant experience estimating and bidding on structural steel, miscellaneous steel, or a combination of both
• Proven track record preparing bids and estimates for commercial projects exceeding $5 million
• The ability to interpret drawings, extract information, and to present in an organized, accurate format
• History of successful projects within BAPKO’s geographical market and strong industry reputation for expertise preferred
• Estimating experience with both fabrication and erection
• Excellent listening and communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Proficiency in Bluebeam and TEKLA/EPM preferred
